Description

One of the largest NMTC project closed in the country. Myriant Corp’s abio-succinic acid plant, developed a proprietary technology platform to produce high-valued biomass-based industrial chemicals that can directly compete with or replace petroleum-derived chemicals. Located in Lake Providence, Louisiana in a parish (county) with the 4th highest unemployment rate in the nation (20.5% as of June 2012). It was North America’s first large-scale facility of its kind, producing 30 million pounds annually of bio-succinic acid. Opened in 2013, it leverages non-food cellulosic feedstocks, creating jobs and supporting sustainable chemical production. The plant drives economic growth in a rural area, aligns with global green chemistry trends, and showcases Louisiana’s role in innovative manufacturing. Helped the 100M+ renewable facility to secure $25 million USDA B&I Loan Guarantee, and $34 million of NMTC financing.
