- Funding Gap: NMTC fills the final financing gap after other sources are secured.
- Policy Alignment: Healthcare or housing projects may gain priority.
- Speed: Shovel-ready projects with quick closings are prioritized.
How NMTC Awards Work
The NMTC allocation process is highly competitive, but Strategus’s expertise ensures your project succeeds. Here’s the process:
1. CDFI Application
Over 300 Community Development Entities (CDEs) apply annually for a share of the $5B NMTC allocation, with ~100 receiving ~$45M each.
2. Project Selection
CDEs prioritize high-impact projects in distressed areas (e.g., rural communities, healthcare, brownfields) aligned with their goals.
3. Credit Allocation
Approved projects receive NMTCs, which are sold to investors to generate a cash subsidy, reducing project costs by ~22%.
4. Project Execution
Strategus manages procurement, compliance, and closing, leveraging our 100% close rate for seamless delivery. With fewer than 400 NMTC transactions annually, partnering with Strategus’s proven expertise is essential.
